Collapse ▲Winter snow might be headed our way! Remember, it’s never too early to prepare for a natural disaster. Here are some tips for helping prepare for bad weather.
Pack your emergency supplies, and make sure they are easily to locate. Items to store in your emergency supplies:
- Water – 1 gallon per person per day – 3 days worth. You can store water in cleaned out soda bottles or empty pitchers and plastic containers in your home. You do not have to purchase water from the store.
- Food – 2 week supply of non-perishable food. Remember a manual can opener for canned food, in case of power outage.
- Clothing – 1 complete change of clothing per person.
- Emergency supplies – cash, phone, charger, batteries, flashlight, etc.
- Sanitation items – extra toilet paper, sanitary napkins, baby wipes.
- Specialty items – prescription medication, important documents, baby items.

Because ice can cause power outages for Catawba County, be sure to prepare for several days without reaching a grocery store.
Have a plan on how you will evacuate if conditions become unsafe. Talk to your family about your plan so that everyone understands.
