Sherrills Ford Library and Master Gardener℠ volunteers of Catawba County are excited to host the 2019 Hands-On Garden Workshop series. Our first workshop will be held at the Sherrills Ford Library on March 30, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Light refreshments will be provided by the library. We will begin indoors and learn about basic pruning techniques and tools as well as a bit about soil science and why it is so important. We will then move outside where we will have an active, hands-on pruning demonstration around the library grounds. Also, we will go through the soil sampling process from start to finish. There will be kits available for gardeners to take home and in subsequent workshops, we will help you interpret your results and apply necessary amendments! Come rain or shine and be prepared to be outside for about an hour. For this workshop, all you need to bring is yourself and appropriate dress for weather, sun etc.
The following week, on April 6, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Sherrills Ford library we will be having a cleanup day,  this is where you can put your new skills to work and help the community clean up the library grounds. There will be a truck and trailer provided to load debris. Please bring any pruning tools (hand pruners, shears, loppers), old tarps for hauling debris, and rakes. This day we will be outside the whole time so please bring appropriate gear, water, and sun protection.
