Collapse ▲Swain County, NC — We are excited to announce the Swain County Agricultural Fair’s inaugural “Battle of the Bands,” a four-hour music contest at the Great Smoky Mountains Event Park. This is set to take place on Saturday, August 19th beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Battle of the Bands will feature six bands who are finalists competing for prize money.
Does your band have what it takes? We are currently accepting entries for the top 6 finalists to compete. The good news is there is not an entry fee to participate in this contest.
Bands must have a minimum of 3 members and be in one of the following music genres: Country, Bluegrass, Gospel, Americana.
Bands who are interested in competing to be a finalist must submit a digital file to the Swain County Agricultural Fair on or before July 28, 2023 . Contest entry form can be found online. The demo should include 2 original/covered songs.
Five (5) judges will review the entries and select 6 bands who will compete in the Battle of the Bands. Finalists will be notified by August 4, 2023.
The top 3 bands will be awarded prize money: First Place – $1,500, Second Place – $1,000, Third Place – $500

A little more about the day of the event. In addition to enjoying live music, the Swain County Agricultural Fair offers food and craft vendors, livestock shows and activities for kids. The N.C. Cooperative Extension, Swain County Center will also be showcasing prize winning entries in agricultural produce, home canned and baked goods, 4-H arts and crafts, and more.
Food vendors provide a wide array of tasty eats including hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, popcorn, tacos, BBQ and French Fries.
The many craft vendors offer homemade items and lots of opportunities for shopping.
Enjoy watching 4-H youth show their sheep, cows and other livestock animals throughout the day during the 4-H Livestock Shows.
The children’s fun park provides fun activities for kids including water slides and other bounce house options.
For the public, entrance to the Swain County Agricultural Fair is $5 per car load, which includes Battle of the Bands along with all the festivities, food and entertainment at this year’s fair.
