Group of youth council students

Youth Council Students for 2018 are appointed at the County Commissioners Meeting.

The Catawba County Youth Council is a commissioner appointed leadership and citizenship group for high school age students. There are  3-4 students selected to  representative each public school, as well as  home school and private school students. The Council meets monthly for meeting for educational programs and activities that allow youth to learn about local issues and develop their leaderships skills. The team of officers select a program focus for the year. Some of the past yearly topics have included:

  • Careers in Local Government, 2016-17
  • Non-Profits and their Role in addressing local needs, 2017-18
  • Local Boards and How they Shape Catawba County, 2018-19
  • County Government Basics – 2019-20

Applications are accepted annually for students who would like to be considered for Youth Council membership. Students are appointed by the County Commissioners to the Council.
