Provisional GAPs for Aquaponics
The Aquaponics Association has developed a set of provisional Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) for aquaponics, a first step in enabling future food safety audits for large aquaponics operations.

A Preliminary Study of Microbial Water Quality Related to Food Safety in Recirculating Aquaponic Fish and Vegetable Production Systems
This publication provides preliminary data that strongly indicate that recirculating aquaponics systems are far less risky with respect to indicator microbes and pathogenic bacteria than soil-based production systems that are typically exposed to warm-blooded animals and use non-potable surface water for irrigation.

On-Farm Food Safety: Aquaponics
This research article addresses using Good Agricultural Practices within an aquaponics operation for food production.

Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (2014) technical paper showcases current wisdom in aquaponics, focusing on small-scale production presenting in nine chapters key topic areas of the three groups of living organisms (bacteria, plants, and fish) that make up the aquaponic ecosystem.
