Seasonal Fall Cooking Workshops

Cooperative Extension will offer several seasonal themed cooking workshops this Fall at the Agricultural Resources Center in Newton. Workshops will be taught by Donna Mull from the Extension staff.

A Fall Food Preservation workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 22 at 5:30-7:30 p.m. and repeated on Tuesday, October 29 at 1:30-3:30 p.m. Participants will learn some basics of making sweet spreads at home with recommended food preservation techniques, as they make apple butter with locally grown apples. The cost is $10 and includes a jar of apple butter for those attending. Pre-registration and advance payment is needed. Register online at go.ncsu.edu/applebutter.

For November, the seasonal favorites workshop topic will focus on Winter Squashes. The workshop will be offered on Wednesday, November 13 at 5:30 p.m. and repeated on Friday, November 15 at 10:30 a.m. Select the workshop that best fits your schedule. During the workshop, participants will learn about different types of winter squashed, tips for preparing and using in recipes, nutritional value, and helpful ideas for growing seasonal squash at home. The small group setting will allow participants hands-on involvement in preparing recipes using acorn, spaghetti, and butternut squashes with taste tests.
