4-H Steer Calf Project Informational Meeting & Sign-Ups


Tuesday, January 9, 2024 6:00 pm Agricultural Resources Center 1175 South Brady Ave., Newton Ages 8-18


Does your child have an interest in learning about raising & showing livestock? * Then this is the project for your family! *

  • Receive a 2 or 3-week old steer calf for the low startup cost of $150
  • Learn to raise, care for, and show a steer
  • Your child will have the opportunity to show the steer in at least 2 shows
  • Your child will be trained in showmanship and grooming techniques
  • Volunteers and a veterinarian will be available to answer questions
  • Animals must be sold at the end of the project

Participating families will receive more detailed training about caring for the calf at a required orientation meeting on January 23, 2024, at 6:30 pm.
