Catawba County Cooperative Extension along with the Catawba County Master Gardener Association will be hosting a Jr Master Gardener curriculum training on Tuesday, January 14th. The instructor will be Liz Driscoll, Youth Horticulture Specialist from NCSU.
Do you work with youth in garden-related projects? The Jr Master Gardener curriculum is an excellent resource to use with youth gardening. The Jr. Master Gardener curriculum is very flexible, making it easy to use in different settings, with easy-to-follow lesson plans. The curriculum can be used for individual lessons or offered as a series for the opportunity for youth to become certified Jr Master Gardeners. Jr Master Gardener is a research-based curriculum with many different hands-on learning activities that help youth learn the basics of plant science and garden-related topics such as soils, ecology, insects and plant disease, landscape horticulture, vegetables and herbs, and career exploration. During the training, participants, will have a chance to learn more about the Jr Master Gardener curriculum, try-out some of the lessons, and get some ideas for using the materials in your county/program. There is a lot of flexibility for how to use this resource! Any adult that works with youth gardening projects is welcome to attend.
